Under sufficient force the glass will still break, but the fragments stay bonded to the PVB interlayer rather than falling free - the panel stays largely in place and the risk of injury from falling glass is sharply reduced.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is what makes laminated glass the standard choice for overhead glazing (canopies, skylights, roof lights), balcony fall-protection on upper floors, and structural glazing - anywhere broken glass could cause serious harm. Toughened glass on its own can shower out completely on impact, which is unsafe in these applications.
