What do you lay the artificial grass on?
For best results the ground needs to be level you can lay it directly on concrete or paving, if laying on earth use sand to level any uneven surface & lay artificial grass. If laying on ground you can get wire pins to push through into ground to keep it in place. You can also purchase underlay to help with smoothen out the grass.
Is this suitable for children playing such that it will cushion falls in the same way as grass and soil?
Nope, think of it as a fluffy topped waterproof picnic blanket type of affair. Unless you put it on top of soil, or a soft surface. You will need underlay for it to have this effect on concrete or a hard surface.
Does this get slippery in frost rain or snow?
No. It drains well and this has been tested on decking and balconies.
If I was the put this on concrete in an open area would it move around when walking on it?
Yes it will. You will either have to use some form adhesive, tape or have something weighing it down.
