Available Colours

Natural black rubber chippings are available in the standard playground rubber chippings product. Coloured rubber chippings are available in Black, Summer Blue, Rustic Red, Slate Grey, Moss Green, Woodland Brown and Camo — suitable for decorative landscaping, school play areas and garden projects where colour is important.

Common Uses

Rubber chippings are used for playground surfaces, garden play areas, school and nursery outdoor spaces, under trampolines, around swings and climbing frames, pathways, garden borders, muddy outdoor areas and commercial landscaping projects. Their excellent drainage and weather resistance make them suitable for year-round outdoor use.

Playground Safety Information

Rubber chippings provide a softer surface than gravel, soil or hard landscaping materials. For use beneath swings, climbing frames, slides or equipment where a fall from height may occur, surfacing must be assessed against the required Critical Fall Height (CFH). Where applicable, surfacing should meet BS EN 1177 playground safety standards. For general play areas, pathways and decorative landscaping, rubber chippings provide an effective and durable solution.

Rubber Chippings vs Bark Mulch

Unlike bark mulch, rubber chippings do not rot, decompose or attract mould. They do not need regular topping up and maintain their appearance and performance in all weather conditions. For high-use outdoor areas where longevity and low maintenance are priorities, rubber chippings offer a significantly longer-lasting surface solution.

Installation and Maintenance

For best results install onto a prepared, level base and lay a weed membrane underneath where required. Spread evenly to the required depth — typically 50mm for general use. Maintain by occasional raking and removing leaves or debris with a garden blower.

Delivery Information

Lead times are currently 5–10 working days across mainland UK. Larger orders are delivered by bulk bag and require suitable access and space for unloading. Contact us for a custom quote on large commercial quantities for schools, parks, nurseries or landscaping projects.

FAQ

How much rubber mulch do I need for my play area?

As a general guide, allow 50mm depth for general garden play areas and pathways, and up to 100mm depth beneath swings, climbing frames or trampolines. At 50mm depth: 500kg covers approximately 25m², 1000kg covers approximately 50m² and 2000kg covers approximately 100m². Measure your area in square metres and use these figures as a guide — coverage may vary depending on ground conditions and compaction. Free samples are available if you would like to check the product before ordering a bulk bag.

Are rubber chippings safe for children's play areas?

Rubber chippings provide a softer surface than gravel, soil or hard landscaping materials and are widely used in domestic and commercial play areas. For use beneath swings, climbing frames, slides or equipment where a fall from height may occur, surfacing requirements must be assessed against the required Critical Fall Height (CFH) for that equipment. Where applicable, surfaces should meet BS EN 1177 playground safety standards. For general play areas, garden spaces and pathways, rubber chippings provide an effective and durable solution.

What is the difference between rubber chippings and rubber mulch?

Rubber chippings and rubber mulch are broadly the same product — both refer to shredded or chipped recycled rubber used as a ground cover or play surface material. The terms are used interchangeably in the UK. Our playground rubber chippings are 10-20mm in size, manufactured from recycled rubber and suitable for both play area surfacing and decorative landscaping use.

How long do rubber chippings last compared to bark mulch?

Rubber chippings significantly outlast traditional bark mulch. Bark mulch typically breaks down within 1-3 years and requires regular topping up. Rubber chippings do not rot, decompose or attract mould, and maintain their appearance and performance for many years with minimal maintenance. For high-use areas such as school playgrounds, nurseries and busy garden play spaces, rubber chippings offer a considerably longer-lasting and lower-maintenance solution.

What are the delivery options and lead times for rubber chippings?

Playground rubber chippings are currently available on a 5–10 working day lead time across mainland UK — early bookings get priority. Bulk bags are delivered by lorry and require suitable access and space for unloading at the delivery address. Some postcode exclusions or additional charges may apply depending on location.
