Mild Steel Sheets

Our S275 mild steel sheets are suitable for welding, fabrication, engineering projects, structural work and general metalworking. Manufactured to BS EN 10025-2, S275 grade gives higher yield strength than S235 and is the UK standard for structural mild steel. Available in common sheet sizes including 8ft x 4ft, 2m x 1m and 2500mm x 1250mm formats, in thicknesses from 1.5mm up to 6mm for sheets.

Galvanised Steel Sheets

Galvanised steel sheets are hot-dip zinc coated to BS EN ISO 1461 for long-term corrosion resistance, making them suitable for roofing, cladding, fabrication, agricultural buildings, sheds, gates and outdoor applications. The zinc coating protects against rust for 25+ years in normal external conditions, with no painting required.

Aluminium Sheets & Chequer Plate

Choose from flat aluminium sheets (1050 H14 grade) and aluminium chequer plate (5754 grade) manufactured for lightweight, corrosion-resistant applications. Suitable for trailers, vehicle flooring, fabrication, wall protection, toolboxes, ramps, decorative metalwork and architectural work. Aluminium is naturally corrosion-resistant without coating, lightweight (around 1/3 the weight of steel), and easy to cut and machine.

Stainless Steel Sheets

304 grade stainless steel sheets (1.4307, 2B finish) offer corrosion resistance and a clean architectural finish suitable for kitchens, catering, splashbacks, fabrication, hygiene-sensitive environments, marine work, food production, decorative metalwork and industrial projects. 304 is the standard UK stainless grade - weldable with stainless filler, and the right choice where appearance and corrosion resistance both matter.

Durbar & Chequer Plate

Our steel durbar plate (S275 grade) and aluminium chequer plate (5754) provide an anti-slip raised diamond or teardrop pattern surface for flooring, ramps, walkways, vans, workshops, industrial areas and commercial projects where grip and durability are important. Steel durbar is the heavy-duty option for industrial flooring and structural use; aluminium chequer is the lightweight option for trailer floors, vehicle protection and decorative applications.

Zintec Sheets

Zintec mild steel sheets are cold-rolled with a thin electrogalvanised coating, providing a smooth surface finish ideal for fabrication, powder coating, automotive work, enclosures and applications requiring a cleaner sheet finish than standard hot-rolled mild steel. Zintec is the go-to choice when you need the strength of mild steel with a paint-ready surface finish.

Choosing the Right Material

Mild steel (S275) - Strongest and cheapest for structural and fabrication work. Needs painting or galvanising for outdoor use.

Galvanised steel - Mild steel zinc-coated for outdoor corrosion resistance. Roofing, cladding, agricultural use.

304 stainless steel - Corrosion-resistant with clean architectural finish. Kitchens, marine, food, hygienic environments.

Aluminium (1050 H14 / 5754) - Lightweight, naturally corrosion-resistant. Trailers, vehicle work, architectural use.

Durbar / chequer plate - Raised pattern for anti-slip flooring, ramps, walkways.

Zintec - Smooth-finish mild steel for powder coating and automotive work.

Available Sizes & Thicknesses

Metal sheets are available in multiple sizes and thicknesses depending on the product selected. Common sheet sizes include 2m x 1m, 2500mm x 1250mm and 8ft x 4ft (2440mm x 1220mm) formats. Thicknesses range from 0.7mm galvanised up to 6mm+ mild steel plate, with heavier plate available on request. Please check individual product pages carefully for material grades, dimensions, thickness options and cutting limitations before ordering.

Welding, Cutting & Finishing

Mild steel, galvanised steel, stainless steel and aluminium can all be cut, drilled and welded with the right tools and consumables. Stainless requires stainless-specific filler and pickling paste to restore corrosion resistance at weld points. Aluminium needs aluminium-specific filler and either MIG or TIG with the correct settings. Galvanised steel should be cleaned back to bare metal at weld points and re-coated after. For outdoor or exposed mild steelwork, prime and paint with a suitable system or specify galvanised at point of order.

FAQ

What types of metal sheets do you stock?

We stock mild steel sheets (S275 grade), galvanised steel sheets (hot-dip zinc coated), aluminium sheets (1050 H14 grade), 304 stainless steel sheets (2B finish), mild steel durbar/chequer plate (S275), aluminium chequer plate (5754 grade) and zintec mild steel sheets. Available in standard sheet sizes including 2m x 1m, 2500mm x 1250mm and 8ft x 4ft formats.

What's the difference between mild steel, galvanised, stainless and aluminium sheet?

Mild steel is the standard structural and fabrication sheet - strong and weldable but needs painting or galvanising for outdoor use. Galvanised steel is mild steel zinc-coated for corrosion resistance, suited to outdoor cladding, roofing and agricultural use. 304 stainless steel is corrosion-resistant with a clean finish, used in kitchens, food, marine and hygienic environments. Aluminium is lightweight, naturally corrosion-resistant, ideal for trailers, vehicle flooring and architectural work.

What's durbar / chequer plate used for?

Durbar plate (also called chequer plate or tread plate) has a raised diamond or teardrop pattern that provides anti-slip grip. It's used for flooring, walkways, ramps, vehicle floors, vans, trailers, industrial steps, workshop floors and mezzanines. We stock mild steel durbar plate (S275) for structural use and aluminium chequer plate (5754) for lightweight applications.

Can metal sheets be cut to size?

Some products can be cut to size on request - mention your required dimensions in the order notes at checkout, or contact us before ordering for a cutting quote. Standard sheet sizes are supplied uncut. Allow for cutting tolerance and kerf waste when specifying sizes for fabrication projects.

What's the delivery lead time?

Lead times are currently 3-5 working days for metal sheets and plate. Sheets are heavy and bulky items - delivered on a pallet to mainland UK addresses. Suitable site access and somebody available to assist with offloading are required.
