Common Uses

Our shed bases are suitable for garden sheds, workshops, log cabins, garden offices, storage buildings, greenhouses, summerhouses, bike stores and general garden buildings. The interlocking grid system is also suitable for driveways, pathways, parking areas, paddocks and hard standing where ground protection and drainage are required.

Installation Guide

For shed and garden building bases: lay the grids on a firm, level surface — on lawn, bare ground or concrete. No membrane is required under a building that has a floor as weeds will not grow where there is no light. Click the grids together to fit the required area. Any visible grids at the edges can be filled with stones for a neat finish or trimmed with a jigsaw.

For driveways, paths and hard standing: prepare the area to 4cm depth, lay a membrane, then click the grids on top. Fill with gravel, sand, turf or other suitable medium packed tightly to the top of the grids. Allow 15kg of gravel per grid.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What size shed base do I need?

Your shed base should match or slightly exceed the footprint of your garden building. If your shed is 8×6ft, select the 8×6ft base. For irregular shapes or large areas, the grid quantity options (60 grids/15m², 80 grids/20m² etc.) allow you to cover any area. If in doubt, measure your area in square metres and select the grid quantity that covers it with a small allowance.

Can shed bases be installed on grass or bare ground?

Yes — these interlocking plastic bases can be laid directly on grass, bare ground or concrete without excavation. For best results the ground should be reasonably flat and firm. Mole hills should be sliced off and any dips filled with compacted hardcore, soil or coarse sand before laying the grids. No concrete or specialist groundwork is required.

What load can the shed bases support?

These bases have been independently tested to support in excess of 150 tonnes per square metre when empty. They are suitable for garden sheds, workshops, log cabins, garden offices and storage buildings of all standard sizes. For very heavy structures or commercial applications, consult a structural engineer.

Can the bases be used for driveways and parking areas?

Yes — the interlocking grid system is suitable for driveways, pathways, parking areas, paddocks and other hard standing areas. For vehicle traffic the area should be prepared to 4cm depth with a membrane laid underneath. Fill the grids with gravel, compacted sand or other suitable medium packed tightly to the top. Allow approximately 15kg of gravel per grid.

What are the delivery lead times for shed bases?

Shed bases are currently available on a 3–5 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses. Contact us for a custom quote on larger orders for commercial landscaping, parking areas or multiple building projects.
