Bring genuine warmth and natural character to your kitchen with our 40mm solid oak kitchen worktop — real European hardwood, not laminate or veneer. Each oak worktop is built from solid staves, finger-jointed and edge-glued into a strong, stable surface that can be sanded back and refinished again and again, lasting for decades rather than being replaced. Supplied in lengths from 1m to 4m and widths up to 930mm, sanded ready to oil or pre-oiled, with cut-to-size available on request and free mainland UK delivery. Price includes VAT.

Why choose a solid oak worktop?

Solid oak is one of the most popular choices for a real wood kitchen worktop, and for good reason. It is a dense, hard-wearing hardwood with a warm golden tone and a bold, characterful grain that suits both traditional and contemporary kitchens. Unlike laminate or oak-effect worktops, a genuine solid oak surface can be sanded and re-oiled to remove marks and refresh the finish, so it ages gracefully and lasts the life of your kitchen. It works equally well as a kitchen worktop, breakfast bar, kitchen island top, utility-room surface, desk or shelving.

Full-stave solid oak construction

Our oak worktops are made from kiln-dried European oak, machined into solid staves that are finger-jointed and edge-glued for strength and stability, then sanded to a smooth 150-grit finish ready for oiling. The result is a robust, hard-wearing 40mm surface with the distinctive block-patterned grain of real oak. As a natural wood product, every worktop is unique — variation in colour, grain, knots and tone is part of the authentic appeal of solid oak and is not a fault.

Sanded or oiled finish

Choose sanded (supplied bare, ready for you to apply your own oil) or oiled (pre-treated for a richer tone and quicker installation). All solid wood worktops must be sealed on every face and edge before installation and use to protect the timber from moisture and stains. We recommend 2–3 coats of a food-safe hardwax oil such as Osmo TopOil, with extra coats on the end grain. Oiled worktops still benefit from a top-up coat after fitting.

Sizes, thickness and breakfast bars

Available in lengths of 1m, 2m, 3m and 4m, in 620mm standard worktop depth plus 720mm and 930mm breakfast-bar and kitchen-island widths. The standard UK kitchen worktop height is around 900mm, and these worktops sit straight onto standard base units. Prefer a slimmer, more contemporary edge? See our 27mm solid oak worktop. For a lighter, paler timber, view our solid beech worktop.

Cut to size and bespoke options

Need a specific length, a cut-out for a sink or hob, or an L-shaped run? Message us before ordering with your sizes and we’ll let you know what’s possible and confirm a price. Solid oak also cuts cleanly on site with a fine-tooth blade — cut from the underside to minimise chipping on the face.

Caring for your oak worktop

Wipe spills promptly and use trivets and chopping boards to protect the surface. Re-oil every 6–12 months, or whenever water stops beading on the surface, to keep it water-repellent and looking its best. Light marks can be sanded back and re-oiled at any time.

Delivery

Free delivery to mainland UK, with a typical lead time of 3–5 working days. Worktops are long, heavy and bulky, so please ensure clear, suitable access for offloading. For multiple worktops or trade quantities, message us for a tailored quote.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sanded or oiled — which should I choose?

Sanded worktops are supplied bare for you to apply your own oil or finish, giving full control over the final look. Oiled worktops are pre-treated for a richer tone and quicker fitting, but still need a top-up coat after installation. Either way, seal every face and edge before use.

Can you cut the oak worktop to size?

We don’t run a paid cutting service, but message us before ordering with your sizes and we’ll advise what’s possible. Solid oak also cuts cleanly on site with a fine-tooth blade — cut from the underside to reduce chipping on the face.

I need a bigger or bespoke size — what are my options?

Standard lengths run to 4m and widths to 930mm. For anything outside that, or for sink and hob cut-outs or L-shaped runs, message us with your requirements and we’ll confirm what we can supply.

How do I oil and maintain a solid oak worktop, and how often?

Apply 2–3 coats of a food-safe hardwax oil such as Osmo TopOil before use, with extra coats on the end grain. Re-oil every 6–12 months, or whenever water stops beading on the surface. Wipe spills promptly and use trivets and chopping boards.

Is solid oak suitable for kitchens and food preparation?

Yes. Properly oiled solid oak is durable, food-safe and develops a warm patina over time. Use a board for chopping and trivets for hot pans, and keep the surface oiled around sinks and hobs to protect against moisture.

What is the difference between oak and beech?

Oak has a bolder, more prominent grain and a warm golden tone. Beech is paler with a finer, more uniform grain and is slightly harder. Choose oak for classic character, or our solid beech worktop for a lighter, more contemporary look.

27mm or 40mm — which thickness should I choose?

40mm gives a chunky, substantial edge that suits traditional and shaker kitchens. 27mm is slimmer and more contemporary, and uses less timber so it is lighter to handle and fit. Both are full solid oak. See our 27mm solid oak worktop for the slimmer profile.

How is the worktop delivered?

Free to mainland UK in 3–5 working days. Worktops are long and heavy, so please ensure clear access for offloading and ideally have a second person available to help position the longer lengths.
