Common uses
Our 8×4ft mild steel durbar plate — also sold as steel chequer plate, checker plate sheet, steel tread plate or floor plate — is supplied in S275 grade with a raised anti-slip durbar pattern in five thicknesses from 3mm to 10mm, in a 2500 × 1250mm (8x4) sheet. The raised chequered pattern provides excellent grip and traction where slip resistance is critical. Ideal for heavy-duty industrial flooring, loading ramps, platforms, stair treads and structural use, with a 3–5 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses.

Common Uses
Mild steel durbar checker plate is widely used for industrial and workshop flooring, loading ramps and platforms, stair treads and walkways, vehicle access ramps, trailer and lorry bed flooring, protective floor coverings and general anti-slip applications in commercial and construction environments. The 8×4ft sheet size is one of the most commonly specified sizes for UK industrial and construction projects.
Workability
S275 mild steel durbar plate can be cut, drilled, welded and fabricated using standard steelwork methods. It is suitable for painting, priming or galvanising after fabrication where corrosion protection is required. The 8mm and 10mm variants are particularly suited to heavy-duty structural flooring and high-load ramp applications.
Durbar Plate vs Aluminium Chequer Plate
Mild steel durbar plate is significantly stronger and heavier than aluminium chequer plate, making it the correct choice for heavy-duty structural flooring, loading ramps and high-traffic industrial applications. Aluminium chequer plate is better suited to lighter-duty applications where weight saving is important. If you are unsure which material is correct for your project, consult a structural engineer or fabricator.
