Chequer plate — also called checker plate, tread plate or durbar — is a raised-pattern metal sheet that gives a slip-resistant surface for flooring, ramps, steps, trailers, vehicle beds, walkways and edging. Rackerman supplies chequer plate in two materials, 5754 aluminium five-bar and S275 mild steel durbar, cut to size.
Aluminium vs steel chequer plate
Aluminium chequer plate (5754 five-bar) is light, naturally corrosion-resistant and won't rust — ideal for trailers, vehicle floors, decorative cladding, steps and outdoor use where weight and appearance matter. Mild steel durbar / tread plate (S275) is stronger and harder-wearing — the choice for heavy-duty flooring, industrial walkways, ramps, loading bays and structural treads. Steel durbar should be painted or galvanised for outdoor use; aluminium needs no coating.
Sizes & pattern
Available in full 8x4 (2500 × 1250mm) and 2x1 (2000 × 1000mm) sheets in a range of thicknesses, cut to your size. Aluminium carries the classic five-bar tread pattern; steel durbar has the traditional raised teardrop/durbar pattern, both engineered for grip underfoot.
