Our DDA durbar stair treads are Pattern 1 checker plate steps designed for accessible, public-facing staircases that need a clearly defined step edge. Each DDA tread is pressed from S275 mild steel with a raised anti-slip durbar pattern, a 265mm going, a 50mm turn-up at the rear and an extended 145mm turn-down front nosing. The deep nosing gives a pronounced visual and tactile step edge that supports compliance with accessibility (DDA / Equality Act / Approved Document M) design principles for public buildings.

Common Uses

DDA durbar treads are specified for accessible staircases in schools, hospitals, retail units, offices, leisure centres and other public buildings where a clear step edge improves safety for visually impaired and less able users. The extended 145mm down-stand is typically finished in a contrasting colour or anti-slip nosing strip to highlight each step, while the raised durbar pattern provides slip resistance across the full tread.

Fitting & Workability

Each DDA tread is supplied with its pressed nosing ready to bolt or weld to a steel or timber stringer. The self-colour finish is ideal for priming and painting, allowing the deep front nosing to be finished in a contrasting safety colour. S275 durbar plate can be drilled, cut and welded with standard steelwork methods and galvanised after fabrication where external corrosion protection is required.

DDA vs Standard Durbar Treads

Standard durbar treads use a short 40–50mm nosing suited to industrial stairs. DDA treads add an extended 145mm front down-stand to create the pronounced, high-visibility step edge needed in accessible public environments. Choose DDA treads wherever accessibility compliance and clear step definition are required.

Matching Durbar Range

DDA treads are pressed from the same S275 durbar plate as our 8×4ft durbar checker plate sheets and 2m × 1m durbar plate. Pair them with standard durbar stair treads and durbar landing plates to complete an accessible staircase.

Delivery Information

DDA durbar stair treads are made to pattern and supplied on a 5–10 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses, with free UK delivery. Treads are sent palletised or by courier depending on quantity — please ensure suitable access is available for delivery.
