Our galvanised durbar stair treads are hot-dip galvanised Pattern 1 checker plate steps built for external and corrosive environments where bare steel would rust. Each durbar tread is pressed from S275 structural steel with a raised anti-slip durbar pattern and a 265mm going, then hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 for long-term corrosion protection. Available in 800mm, 900mm, 1000mm and 1250mm lengths in 4.5mm thickness with a 40mm turn up / down nosing, these galvanised steel stair treads are ready to bolt straight onto a staircase.

Common Uses

Galvanised durbar treads are the correct choice for external staircases, fire escapes, coastal and marine sites, agricultural buildings, wastewater and process plants, and any location exposed to weather, washdown or chemicals. The galvanised finish removes the need to paint or re-coat the treads, making them virtually maintenance-free over a long service life, while the raised durbar pattern keeps the step slip-resistant in wet conditions.

Fitting & Workability

Each tread arrives with a pressed nosing ready to bolt to a steel or timber stringer — bolting is preferred to welding so the galvanised coating is not burned through. If treads are cut or drilled on site, treat the exposed steel with a cold galvanising spray to maintain corrosion protection. Galvanised treads require no painting and need no ongoing maintenance in normal use.

Galvanised vs Mild Steel Durbar Treads

Mill-finish mild steel durbar treads are ideal for internal, dry or painted applications, but for any external or wet environment a galvanised finish is strongly recommended to prevent rust and extend service life. Galvanised treads carry a small price premium over self-colour treads but remove all future repainting and corrosion maintenance.

Matching Durbar Range

Our galvanised treads are made from the same S275 durbar plate as our 8×4ft durbar checker plate sheets and 2m × 1m durbar plate. See also our self-colour mild steel durbar stair treads and matching durbar landing plates.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why choose galvanised durbar treads?
Hot-dip galvanising to BS EN ISO 1461 protects the steel from rust, making these treads maintenance-free and ideal for external staircases, fire escapes, coastal and washdown environments.

What sizes and thickness are available?
Galvanised durbar stair treads have a 265mm going and a 40mm turn up / down nosing, in 800, 900, 1000 and 1250mm lengths at 4.5mm thickness.

Should I bolt or weld galvanised treads?
Bolting is preferred so the galvanised coating is not burned through. If you cut or drill on site, re-protect the exposed steel with a cold galvanising spray.

What are the delivery lead times?
Galvanised durbar treads are made to pattern on a 5-10 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses, with free UK delivery. Treads are sent palletised or by courier depending on quantity.
