Our 8×4ft mild steel durbar plate — also sold as steel chequer plate, checker plate sheet, steel tread plate or floor plate — is supplied in S275 grade with a raised anti-slip durbar pattern in five thicknesses from 3mm to 10mm, in a 2500 × 1250mm (8x4) sheet. The raised chequered pattern provides excellent grip and traction where slip resistance is critical. Ideal for heavy-duty industrial flooring, loading ramps, platforms, stair treads and structural use, with a 3–5 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses.

Common Uses

Mild steel durbar checker plate is widely used for industrial and workshop flooring, loading ramps and platforms, stair treads and walkways, vehicle access ramps, trailer and lorry bed flooring, protective floor coverings and general anti-slip applications in commercial and construction environments. The 8×4ft sheet size is one of the most commonly specified sizes for UK industrial and construction projects.

Workability

S275 mild steel durbar plate can be cut, drilled, welded and fabricated using standard steelwork methods. It is suitable for painting, priming or galvanising after fabrication where corrosion protection is required. The 8mm and 10mm variants are particularly suited to heavy-duty structural flooring and high-load ramp applications.

Durbar Plate vs Aluminium Chequer Plate

Mild steel durbar plate is significantly stronger and heavier than aluminium chequer plate, making it the correct choice for heavy-duty structural flooring, loading ramps and high-traffic industrial applications. Aluminium chequer plate is better suited to lighter-duty applications where weight saving is important. If you are unsure which material is correct for your project, consult a structural engineer or fabricator.

Ready-Made Durbar Steps & Landings

Need finished steps rather than sheet? We also supply pre-formed durbar stair treads, galvanised durbar treads, DDA durbar treads, spiral durbar treads and durbar landing plates pressed from the same S275 durbar plate.

Delivery Information

Lead times are currently 3–5 working days to mainland UK addresses. Sheets are heavy items — please ensure suitable access is available for delivery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What thicknesses is the 8×4ft durbar plate available in?
The 8×4ft (2500 × 1250mm) mild steel durbar checker plate is available in 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm, 8mm and 10mm thicknesses. Approximate weights per square metre are 26.2 kg/m² at 3mm rising to 81.14 kg/m² at 10mm. For lighter applications the 3mm and 4.5mm variants are most commonly used, while 8mm and 10mm are suited to heavy-duty structural flooring and high-load ramp applications.

What is the 8×4ft durbar plate used for?
The 8×4ft mild steel durbar checker plate is one of the most widely used sheet sizes for UK industrial and construction projects. Common applications include workshop and factory flooring, loading ramps and platforms, stair treads, walkways, vehicle access ramps, trailer and lorry bed flooring, and protective anti-slip floor coverings. The larger sheet size reduces the number of joints required in flooring installations.

What does S275 mean on durbar plate?
S275 refers to the structural steel grade. The S denotes structural steel and 275 refers to the minimum yield strength of 275 N/mm². S275 is one of the most commonly used mild steel grades in the UK for general structural and fabrication applications, offering good weldability and machinability alongside reliable mechanical properties.

Can I get durbar plate cut to size?
Our durbar checker plate is supplied in standard sheet sizes of 2000 × 1000mm and 2500 × 1250mm (8×4ft). The sheets can be cut, drilled and fabricated on site using standard steelwork methods. Contact us if you require a custom size or quantity for a specific project.

What are the delivery lead times for 8×4ft durbar plate?
