Collection: Mill Finish RSJ Beams

Mill finish RSJ steel beams stacked for UK construction delivery

Mill finish RSJ beams are structural steel beams supplied in their standard untreated steel finish. They are commonly used for building work, extensions, openings, loft conversions, garage openings, renovations and general construction projects where a structural beam is required.

Our mill finish RSJs include a range of universal beams and steel sections in popular sizes. They are suitable for load-bearing applications when specified correctly, but the beam size, length, grade and installation details must always be confirmed by a qualified structural engineer before ordering.

Mill Finish RSJ Beams for UK Construction Projects

Mill finish steel is supplied without a red oxide primer or galvanised coating. This makes it a practical option for projects where the beam will be painted, treated, enclosed within the structure or finished separately after delivery.

The surface may have normal mill marks, handling marks or light surface oxidation, which is typical for untreated structural steel. If the beam will be exposed to moisture, outdoor conditions or visible finished areas, a suitable paint or protection system should be applied.

Mill Finish Steel Explained

Mill finish means the steel is supplied in its standard raw finish from manufacture, without an additional primer coat. It is often chosen when the customer, builder or fabricator wants to apply their own coating system later.

For projects where the steel needs short-term primer protection before final painting, red oxide RSJ beams may be more suitable. For exposed outdoor steelwork, speak to your engineer, builder or coating supplier about the correct protection system.

Structural Steel Notice

All RSJ beams must be specified by a qualified structural engineer. Beam size, loading, bearing requirements, padstones, connections and installation method depend on the individual project.

Rackerman does not provide structural design advice and cannot confirm whether a specific beam is suitable for your opening or load requirement.

Available Mill Finish RSJ Sizes

This collection includes mill finish RSJ beams in a range of commonly used sizes. Product options may include different beam depths, weights and lengths depending on availability.

If you already have your engineer’s specification, match the required beam size and length from the available product options. If you are unsure, confirm the specification before placing an order.
