Stainless steel wall flanges and wall plates for fixing handrail tube to walls. Available in 316 marine grade (satin and mirror) for external use. External fit flanges slide over the tube and screw to the wall; weld-on bases are welded to the tube end first then bolted to wall. Specialist wall/floor flanges for slotted glass-balustrade tube also available.

Coverage in this range: 316 Satin (7 variants), 316 Mirror (5 variants). All products supplied by Brundle - the UK's leading Pro-Railing supplier - and dispatched from UK stock.

What These Components Are

Wall flanges fix handrail tube to brick, masonry or steel walls - the standard way to terminate a wall-mounted handrail or short balustrade run. The weld-on round base style with O-ring and cover gives the cleanest finish for new-build work. External fit flanges suit retrofit work where the tube is already in place. Wall baluster brackets carry vertical balusters off a horizontal wall surface.

Finishes Explained

316 Mirror - the premium architectural finish. Marine-grade 316 stainless polished to a high reflective mirror finish. The choice for showcase residential, hotels, retail and feature installs where appearance matters as much as durability.

316 Satin - the trade standard for external and marine work. Marine-grade 316 stainless with a brushed satin finish - hides fingerprints, water spots and minor scratches. The default choice for balconies, terraces, swimming pools, coastal homes and commercial work.

304 Satin - the indoor/dry-environment option. Standard 304 grade stainless in satin finish - lower cost than 316, perfectly suited to interior staircases, dry-environment installs and budget-focused projects. Not recommended for outdoor or coastal use.

Specification & Standards

All stainless steel components are manufactured to BS EN 10088 stainless steel standards. 316 grade contains 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel and 2-3% molybdenum (the molybdenum is what gives 316 its marine-grade chloride resistance). 304 grade contains 18-20% chromium and 8-10.5% nickel. Tube and section dimensions to standard UK railing dimensions (42.4mm or 48.3mm OD round tube, 40×40mm square, 40×30mm or 60×30mm channel for glass-top systems).

Compatibility

All components in this range are part of the Brundle Pro-Railing system - the UK's most widely-specified stainless steel balustrade system. Components are fully compatible with each other across finishes and component types - you can mix mirror posts with satin clamps if you want a feature contrast, or specify a single finish throughout. Glass clamps, joiners, brackets and end caps are sized to 42.4mm or 48.3mm round tube - check your tube diameter before ordering fittings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between weld-on and external fit flanges?
Weld-on flanges have a solid base disc with the tube welded into the centre - very strong, clean appearance, but the tube must be cut to length first and welded in workshop conditions. External fit flanges have a separate base plate that slides over the tube and locks with grub screws - retrofittable, no welding needed, easier for site installs but the join is more visible. Use weld-on for new-build/clean finishes, external fit for retrofit and quick installs.

Are these flanges suitable for outdoor use?
316 marine grade flanges (satin or mirror) are fully suitable for outdoor and coastal use - they're designed for marine environments and won't corrode in salt air, rain or pool environments. 304 grade flanges are only suitable for interior dry use - they'll eventually pit and stain in outdoor conditions, even inland. For any exterior wall-mounted handrail (balconies, garden steps, external stairs) always specify 316.

What's the difference between 316 and 304 stainless steel?
316 stainless contains molybdenum which gives it superior corrosion resistance against chlorides (salt, swimming pool water, marine air, de-icing salts). 304 stainless is the standard interior-grade - cheaper, perfectly fine for dry indoor use, but will eventually pit and stain in coastal or pool environments. For external use, marine applications, swimming pools, balconies and any salt-exposed location - always specify 316. For indoor stairs, dry environments and budget projects, 304 is the right choice.

Satin or mirror finish - what's the difference?
Both 316 satin and 316 mirror are the same grade of marine stainless steel - the difference is the surface finish only. Satin is a brushed/lined finish that hides fingerprints, scratches and water spotting - it's the standard architectural choice. Mirror is a high-polish reflective finish - more decorative, premium-looking, but shows every fingerprint, water mark and scratch. Pick mirror for showcase installs (luxury homes, hotels, retail), satin for everyday commercial and residential use.

What's the delivery lead time?
Lead times are 3-5 working days for stainless steel handrail components to mainland UK addresses. Items are dispatched by courier or pallet depending on quantity. Shipping is £15 flat rate or free over £200 ex VAT.
