Why choose 8 gauge heavy-duty gabion baskets?

Standard 10 gauge (3mm) baskets suit low garden walls and decorative work, but as walls get taller the load rises fast. Stepping up to 4mm (8 gauge) wire gives a stronger, stiffer structure that holds its shape — the gauge professional landscapers specify for retaining walls and gabion fences.

GALFAN-coated for the longest life

Every basket is finished in GALFAN — a zinc-aluminium alloy coating (10% aluminium / 90% zinc) offering roughly two to three times the corrosion resistance of conventional galvanising, with a 50–100 year expected lifespan. Supplied as flat-pack kits with 6 welded panels, 12 helicoil spirals and bracing wire.

Sizes & Mesh

All 8 gauge baskets use a 75mm square mesh — ideal for filling with larger gabion stones.

Supplied flat-packed. Nominal dimensions; 975mm baskets are commonly referred to as 1m.

Gabion fencing and walls

4mm is the recommended gauge for gabion fencing and cladding, where narrow baskets are supported by steel posts. Always follow a structural design for fencing and for any load-bearing gabion retaining wall above roughly 1m.
