Rubber roll vs interlocking tiles vs mats
For covering a whole garage floor, a roll is the fastest, cheapest, seam-free option.
| Rubber roll | Interlocking tiles | Loose mats | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coverage speed | Fast — roll it out | Slower — clip each tile | Spot coverage only |
| Joins / seams | Few — full-width sheet | Many tile seams | Lots of edges |
| Cost to cover a garage | Lowest | Higher | N/A for full floors |
| Best for | Full garage, gym & workshop floors | Small / awkward spaces | Workbenches, doorways |
Which surface do you need?
Checker, 5-bar and coin come in 3mm; coin and smooth come in 5mm. See the full range in our rubber garage flooring collection.

Good to know
Our heavy-duty rubber garage flooring is a solid black rubber roll, 1.5m wide and cut to the exact length you need. Choose your surface pattern and thickness, then lay a tough, non-slip, hard-wearing floor straight over cold concrete, timber or an existing surface — ideal for garages, workshops, home gyms, sheds, vans and utility rooms.
Four Patterns — Checker, 5-Bar, Coin and Smooth
Pick the surface that suits the space. Checker plate (chequer) gives the classic raised diamond tread of steel Durbar plate. 5-bar adds a bolder five-line tread for extra slip resistance on ramps and in wet areas. Coin (penny round) gives an even, studded finish popular in gyms and showrooms. Smooth is a flat surface that is easiest to sweep, mop and roll trolleys or jacks across. Every pattern is the same solid black rubber.
3mm or 5mm — Which Thickness?
3mm is the everyday choice for garages, sheds and light workshop use — hard-wearing and easy to handle. 5mm is the premium, heavier-duty option with more cushioning and sound deadening for home gyms, drop zones and high-traffic commercial floors. Checker, 5-bar and coin come in 3mm; coin and smooth are available in 5mm.
Size and Material
Every roll is 1.5m wide and cut to length from 1m up to 15m in a single continuous piece. Made from dense, recycled solid rubber, it is heavy, grippy and built to take punishment — a genuine rubber floor, not a thin vinyl look-alike. Measure your floor, add a little for trimming, and pick your thickness, pattern and length above.
Where It Is Used
This 1.5m rubber matting roll suits garages, workshops, home and commercial gyms, sheds, utility rooms, vans, trailers, stables and storage units. The cut-to-length roll means fewer joins across a floor than interlocking tiles or small mats.
Oil, Grease and Hard Wear
Unlike thin vinyl flooring, solid rubber stands up well to oil, grease, water and the day-to-day battering of a working garage or workshop. It is the right choice for a bay where cars are parked, serviced and worked on.
Fitting and Cutting
Loose-lay in most cases: roll it out, let it relax and flatten, then trim to the walls with a sharp utility knife along a straight edge. The roll can also be cut down its length to make narrower runs. For a permanent finish, bond it down with double-sided tape or a compatible flooring adhesive on a clean, dry, level subfloor.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Sweep, mop or jet-wash — dust, grit and tyre marks lift away easily. The textured patterns help disguise everyday wear between cleans.
Delivery and Handling
Free UK delivery, typically 3–5 working days. Rubber rolls are heavy at longer lengths, so plan for two people to move and position a long roll and make sure there is clear access for the courier. Need a trade quantity or multiple rolls? Contact us for a bulk quote.
