Rackerman supplies steel reinforcement for concrete work across the UK — both rebar (reinforcing bar) and welded reinforcement mesh, bought online by the single length or sheet with no trade account and no minimum order. Whether you're pouring a shed base, a driveway, a raft foundation or a structural slab, you'll find the right reinforcing steel here, cut to size where you need it and delivered to your door.
Steel Rebar (Reinforcing Bar)
Our steel rebar is hot-rolled ribbed reinforcing bar in grade B500B to BS 4449, the standard specification for UK concrete reinforcement. Supplied in 10mm, 12mm, 16mm and 20mm diameters in 6-metre lengths, these rebar rods develop a strong mechanical bond with concrete thanks to their deformed (ribbed) surface. Smaller reinforcing bar such as 10mm and 12mm is ideal for domestic footings, lintels and ground beams, while 16mm and 20mm steel rebar suits heavier structural work, columns and retaining walls.
Steel Reinforcement Mesh (A142–A393 & D49)
For slabs and bases, welded steel reinforcement mesh spreads load and controls cracking far faster to lay than loose bar. Our concrete reinforcement mesh is manufactured to BS 4483 and stocked in the common UK fabric specifications:
| Mesh | Wire dia. | Wire spacing | Area | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A142 | 6mm | 200mm | 142 mm²/m | Domestic slabs, shed bases, paths, driveways |
| A252 | 8mm | 200mm | 252 mm²/m | Garage & industrial floors, heavier slabs |
| A393 | 10mm | 200mm | 393 mm²/m | Structural slabs, rafts, heavy-duty bases |
| D49 | 2.5mm | 100mm | 49 mm²/m | Screeds, render and lightweight repairs |
A142 mesh is the everyday choice for most domestic concreting; step up to A252 or A393 as loads increase. Sheets are available in the full 4.8m × 2.4m standard size and handy smaller cuts such as 3.6m × 2.0m and 2.4m × 1.2m, so you can order a single sheet of rebar mesh rather than a full bundle.
Cut to Size
Need it to fit? We cut rebar and reinforcement mesh to your dimensions to reduce waste and make handling on site easier — just tell us the sizes at checkout or get in touch for a cutting quote.
Delivery & Offloading
Reinforcing steel is heavy and, in the case of full mesh sheets and 6m bar, long — so orders are sent on a pallet or dedicated vehicle. Typical delivery is 3–5 working days. Please make sure someone is available to help offload larger or heavier items, as kerbside delivery does not include mechanical offload unless arranged in advance.
Grade & Standards
All reinforcement is supplied to recognised British Standards — rebar to BS 4449 (B500B) and mesh fabric to BS 4483. Material and cutting are supplied for construction use; responsibility for structural design, bar schedules and cover remains with the customer or their engineer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is rebar?
Rebar, or reinforcing bar, is ribbed steel bar cast into concrete to give it tensile strength. Ours is grade B500B to BS 4449 in 10–20mm diameters and 6m lengths.
What is A142 mesh used for?
A142 is the most common UK reinforcement mesh — 6mm wire on a 200mm grid (142 mm²/m). It's used for domestic slabs, shed bases, paths and driveways.
What's the difference between A142, A252 and A393 mesh?
They increase in strength: A142 (6mm wire), A252 (8mm) and A393 (10mm), all on a 200mm grid. Heavier loads need a higher spec — A252 for garage and industrial floors, A393 for structural slabs and rafts.
What size rebar do I need for foundations?
Domestic footings and ground beams commonly use 10mm or 12mm bar; structural work, columns and retaining walls typically use 16mm or 20mm. Always follow your engineer's design where one exists.
Can you cut rebar and mesh to size?
Yes — we cut both reinforcing bar and mesh sheets to your dimensions to cut waste and ease handling. Add sizes at checkout or request a cutting quote.
Do you sell single sheets of mesh?
Yes. You can order a single sheet of reinforcement mesh — no full bundles or packs required.
How is reinforcement steel delivered?
On a pallet or dedicated vehicle, usually within 3–5 working days. Larger sheets and 6m bar need help offloading, as standard kerbside delivery doesn't include mechanical offload.
Is your reinforcement to British Standard?
Yes — rebar is B500B to BS 4449 and mesh fabric is to BS 4483.
