Buy a single sheet of steel reinforcement mesh, delivered to your door — no full packs, no bundles and no trade-counter collection. Our high-tensile welded concrete reinforcement mesh — also called rebar mesh, reinforcing mesh or fabric mesh — is manufactured to BS 4483 in A142, A252, A393 and D49 designations and a choice of sheet sizes, ready for concrete slabs, foundations, paths, driveways, floor screeds and retaining walls. Order one sheet or a full stack and we deliver across mainland UK for a flat £15.

Reinforcement mesh sizes & designations

Also known as reinforcing mesh, rebar mesh or fabric mesh, each reinforcement mesh designation is defined by the cross-sectional area of steel per metre width (mm²/m). The higher the number, the more steel and the greater the load capacity:

  • A142 mesh — 6mm wire, 200 × 200mm grid, ~2.22 kg/m². Light-duty a142 mesh for shed bases, paths, garden slabs and light domestic work.
  • A252 mesh — 8mm wire, ~3.95 kg/m². Mid-weight a252 mesh for driveways, garages and domestic ground-floor slabs.
  • A393 mesh — 10mm wire, ~6.16 kg/m². Heavy-duty a393 mesh for structural slabs, raft foundations and load-bearing work.
  • D49 mesh — structural wrapping / fabric mesh for specialist reinforcement.

The full British A-series also includes A193 mesh; the designations above are our fastest-moving stock. Standard sheet sizes are 4.8m × 2.4m (11.52 m² per sheet), 3.6m × 2.0m (7.2 m²) and 2.4m × 1.2m (2.88 m²) — choose your designation and sheet size from the variant options.

What is steel reinforcement mesh used for?

Steel reinforcement mesh adds the tensile strength that concrete lacks, controlling cracking and distributing load across a slab. It is used throughout domestic, commercial and agricultural construction: ground-floor and structural slabs, strip and raft foundations, driveways and hardstandings, garage and shed bases, floor screeds, retaining walls and concrete paths. Welded at every intersection, the concrete mesh forms a rigid grid that bonds tightly with the concrete pour.

Choosing the right concrete reinforcement mesh

Match the mesh to the load. Light paths and shed bases typically use A142; driveways and domestic slabs use A252; structural and heavily loaded slabs use A393. Where a project is engineer-designed, always follow the structural drawings — the designation, concrete cover and lap length will be specified for you.

Specification

Standard BS 4483
Material High-tensile steel, welded at intersections
Grades stocked A142, A252, A393, D49
Grid 200 × 200mm (A-series)
Sheet sizes 4.8 × 2.4m, 3.6 × 2.0m, 2.4 × 1.2m

Positioning & lapping in concrete

Mesh must sit on spacers (chairs) in the lower third of the slab thickness — not on the ground — so the steel is fully encased for structural performance and corrosion protection. Overlap adjacent sheets by at least two squares (plus one bar) and tie with binding wire. Cut to size on site with bolt cutters or an angle grinder.

Delivery — single sheets to your door

Unlike merchants that sell mesh by the pack or collection-only, we deliver single sheets across mainland UK on a flat £15 charge, typically 5–8 working days. Sheets are long and heavy, so please arrange help to offload. Buying a large quantity? Contact us for a bulk price.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are steel reinforcement mesh sheets used for?

Steel reinforcement mesh sheets are used to reinforce concrete slabs, bases and foundations. They help control cracking, distribute loads evenly and improve the strength and durability of concrete.

What is the difference between A142, A252, A393 and D49 mesh?

A142 is typically used for light-duty applications such as paths and shed bases. A252 and A393 are used for medium to heavy-duty slabs and foundations. D49 is a heavier mesh commonly specified for structural or higher load applications.

Are these suitable for domestic and commercial projects?

Yes. Steel reinforcement mesh sheets are widely used in domestic, commercial and light industrial construction, depending on the mesh grade and thickness selected.

Do the sheets come flat or rolled?

All steel reinforcement mesh sheets are supplied flat as welded steel mesh sheets.

How do I choose the correct mesh for my project?

The correct mesh depends on the load requirements and type of concrete pour. Light slabs typically use A142, while heavier structural slabs may require A252, A393 or D49. Always follow structural drawings or engineer specifications where applicable.

Are these mesh sheets compliant with UK standards?

Yes. All variants are manufactured to recognised UK construction standards and are suitable for professional trade use.

Is delivery available across the UK?

Yes. UK delivery is available, with options for trade and bulk quantities depending on order size and location.
