How many brackets do you need?

A quick guide by shelf length. For heavier loads use closer spacing and always fix into solid masonry or studwork.

We recommend 4 brackets (2 pairs) at ~500mm centres.

  • Heavy loads (books, kitchenware, tools): keep brackets to 400-500mm centres and add a centre bracket on any shelf over 900mm.
  • Weight capacity is set by the brackets and wall fixings, not the board - fix into solid masonry or studwork and use heavy-duty fixings for plasterboard.

Give any room genuine industrial character with our reclaimed scaffold board shelves — real, used scaffold boards rescued from sites, sanded smooth, hand-finished and cut to the exact length you need. These are reclaimed boards repurposed as rustic shelving for the home, not raw construction boards: every scaffold board shelf is graded, de-nailed, sanded and sealed so it is ready to hang straight onto your wall. Each carries the grain, tone and weathered character only reclaimed timber has, making it a one-off piece for kitchens, living rooms, alcoves, home offices, cafés and retail displays across the UK.

Genuine reclaimed scaffold board shelves

These are authentic reclaimed scaffold boards, not a printed lookalike or a new board made to imitate one. Each is graded, de-nailed, sanded to remove splinters and loose material, then sealed with a protective wax. The result is a rustic, hard-wearing scaffold board shelf that is scratch- and water-resistant while keeping the rugged look of the original timber. If you have been searching for scaffold board shelving, scaffolding shelves, reclaimed scaffold board shelves or rustic wall shelves, this is the real thing.

Cut to size — any length, no cut charge

Every shelf is made to order and cut to your chosen length, from a compact 30cm up to a full 4 metres, with no extra charge for cutting. Popular sizes like 60cm, 80cm, 100cm, 120cm, 150cm and 200cm are ordered every day, but because each board is made to measure you can match an existing run or fit an awkward alcove to the exact centimetre. The standard board is 22cm deep and 4.4cm thick — the classic scaffold-board profile — with a wider 44cm board and a chunkier 7cm profile also available.

Ten hand-applied wax finishes

Choose from ten finishes — Natural (no wax), Light Oak, Medium Oak, Walnut, Black Walnut, Teak, Gothic, White Wash, Grey Wash and Liming Wax — so your scaffold shelves suit anything from a bright Scandi kitchen to a dark industrial loft. Each board is sanded smooth and sealed with a blend of beeswax and carnauba wax for a durable, low-sheen finish.

Brackets, floating shelves and shelving units

Complete the look with our matching scaffold board shelf brackets, sold separately — choose scaffold pipe brackets for the full industrial look, curved or reversed lip brackets, rustic L brackets, or concealed floating brackets to create scaffold board floating shelves with no visible fixings. Stack several boards to build a scaffold board bookcase, bookshelf or full shelving unit. As a guide, fix brackets at 400–600mm centres, using closer spacing and heavy-duty fixings for heavier loads.

Rustic shelving for every room

Scaffold boards are built to carry workers and materials on site, so as shelving they are seriously strong. Fixed to sound masonry or studwork they comfortably hold books, kitchenware, plants, vinyl and heavy display stock — making them ideal as kitchen scaffold shelves, living-room shelving, alcove shelves, home-office and bookshelf runs, and shop, café and restaurant fittings. They are a warmer, more characterful alternative to standard industrial shelving.

Sustainable reclaimed timber

Reclaiming scaffold boards keeps solid timber out of landfill and gives it a second life, so every scaffold board shelf is an eco-friendly choice as well as a stylish one. No two boards are identical — colour, grain and the occasional original mark are all part of the reclaimed character.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What sizes do your scaffold board shelves come in?

The standard board is 22cm deep x 4.4cm thick — the classic scaffold board profile — cut to any length from 30cm up to 4 metres. Every shelf is made to order, and wider 44cm boards and chunkier 7cm profiles are available on request.

Can I get scaffold board shelves cut to size?

Yes. Every shelf is made to order and cut to your chosen length at no extra charge. Choose your length from the size options on this page.

What finishes and colours are available?

Ten finishes: Natural (no wax), Light Oak, Medium Oak, Walnut, Black Walnut, Teak, Gothic, White Wash, Grey Wash and Liming Wax. Each is sanded smooth and sealed with a protective wax.

Do you sell brackets for scaffold board shelves?

Yes. We supply matching scaffold board shelf brackets separately — scaffold pipe brackets, curved and reversed lip brackets, and concealed floating brackets. Any standard bracket that supports the full 225mm board depth will also fit.

Can I use them as floating shelves?

Yes. Fit our concealed floating brackets to mount the boards as scaffold board floating shelves with no visible fixings.

How much weight can a scaffold board shelf hold?

Scaffold boards are designed to take the weight of workers and materials on site, so they are extremely strong. Fixed to sound masonry or studwork with brackets at 400–600mm centres, they comfortably hold books, kitchenware, plants and heavy display items.

How are the boards treated, and can I refinish them?

Each board is sanded to remove splinters and sealed with a protective wax. You can re-wax, oil or varnish at any time, or lightly sand and re-finish to refresh the surface.
