Our interlocking plastic shed base grid is a fast, tool-free alternative to a concrete base — a stable, level, free-draining shed base kit for garden sheds, workshops, greenhouses, log cabins and garden offices. The same recycled-plastic grid also works as a gravel grid for driveways, paths and parking. Available in over 20 sizes from 4×3ft up to 35m², with a 25-year warranty and free mainland UK delivery.
Why a Plastic Grid Shed Base?
A grid shed base clicks together in minutes with no tools, no cement and no curing time — unlike a concrete base for a shed, which is slow, permanent and needs formwork and mixing. The interlocking grid spreads the load, drains freely so water doesn't pool under your building, and lays straight onto lawn, bare ground, compacted hardcore or existing concrete. It's the easiest way to get a firm, level foundation for a garden building on a weekend.

Shed Base Sizes
Choose the base to match your building — over 20 sizes cover the standard UK shed footprints and bulk grid packs for larger areas:
| Imperial (ft) | Bulk grid packs | Metric |
|---|---|---|
| 4×3, 6×4, 6×6, 7×4, 7×6 | 60 grids / 15m² | 2.5m × 3m |

| 14×7, 17×10 | 120 grids / 30m², 140 grids / 35m² |
Not sure which size? Order the base to match your shed's footprint (or the next size up). Any grids overhanging the edge trim easily with a jigsaw, or fill them with stone for a neat finish.
Gravel Grid for Driveways, Paths & Parking
The same grid is a heavy-duty gravel grid (ground reinforcement grid) for driveways, paths, parking bays, bin stores and paddock gateways. Laid over a prepared sub-base and filled with gravel, it stops loose stone migrating and rutting while draining freely — a permeable, SuDS-friendly alternative to tarmac or concrete. Rated to 150+ tonnes/m², it takes cars and light vans. Allow around 15kg of gravel per grid to fill to the top.
Suitable For
Garden sheds, workshops, log cabins, garden offices, storage buildings, greenhouses, summerhouses, bike stores and general garden buildings — plus gravel driveways, pathways, parking areas, paddocks and hard standing where ground stabilisation and drainage are wanted.
How to Install
For a shed or garden building base: lay the grids on a firm, level surface — lawn, bare ground or concrete. No membrane is needed under a building with a floor (weeds won't grow without light). Click the grids together to cover the area, trim or stone-fill any edge grids.
For a driveway, path or hard standing: excavate to around 4cm, lay a weed membrane, then click the grids on top and fill with gravel, sand or turf packed tight to the top of the grid (about 15kg gravel per grid).
Related Garden Buildings & Groundwork
Pair your base with a metal garden shed or polytunnel greenhouse, and finish surrounding ground with rubber grass mats or weed control membrane.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a shed base grid?
Interlocking plastic grid panels that sit on the ground to create a firm, level, free-draining base for sheds, summerhouses, greenhouses and log cabins. An alternative to concrete that is faster to install and permeable.
How is a shed base installed?
Level the ground, lay a weed membrane, then click the grid panels together. Fill with gravel if required. The base is ready immediately — no curing time like concrete.
Does a shed base grid need gravel?
Optional. The grid can be used empty on firm ground, or filled with pea gravel for additional weight and drainage. Gravel fill also prevents the grid panels from shifting.
What sizes of shed base are available?
Check the product page for the available grid sizes. Multiple panels can be combined for larger bases.
Is a grid base as strong as concrete?
For sheds and light garden buildings, yes. Grid bases distribute load across the ground surface and are approved by most shed manufacturers. For very heavy structures, concrete may be more appropriate.
