Galvanised Aviary Mesh for Aviaries & Small Animals

Rackerman aviary mesh is a fine galvanised welded wire mesh made for aviaries, rabbit and small-animal runs, pet cages and rodent exclusion. With tight 7mm to 25mm apertures it keeps small birds and animals safely in and predators and vermin firmly out, while the welded galvanised construction holds its shape and lasts for years outdoors. Manufactured to BS EN 10223-4 from galvanised mild steel, this rigid welded mesh will not unravel when cut, so it is ideal for building and repairing enclosures cleanly.

Choosing the right aperture is the key decision with aviary mesh: the smaller the hole, the smaller the animal it excludes. Because the mesh is welded rather than woven, panels stay flat and square when you staple or clip them to a frame — giving a professional, predator-resistant finish on bird cages, runs and hutches.

Choosing Your Aperture

Aperture Best for
7 x 7mm Finest mesh — excludes mice, rats and the smallest birds
13 x 13mm Aviary and small-bird mesh
13 x 25mm Rabbit, guinea pig and small-animal runs

Typical Uses for Aviary Mesh

Aviary mesh is used for bird aviaries, rabbit and guinea pig runs, pet and breeding cages, fox- and rodent-proofing, vents and soffit screens, and fruit cages and propagation frames. The 7mm grade is also a popular choice for blocking rodent entry points around buildings.

Larger Panel Alternative — Welded Mesh Panels

Aviary mesh comes in rolls sized for small enclosures. For larger runs, boundary infills and security fencing where you need bigger flat panels, see our rigid welded mesh panels: galvanised welded mesh panels in 25mm, 50mm and 75x25mm holes (6ft x 3ft to 8ft x 4ft sheets), or the heavier 10G galvanised welded mesh panels for security-grade enclosures. For garden-blending finishes see our green PVC coated welded mesh panels or black PVC coated welded mesh panels.

Cut to Size, Fixing & Quantities

Aviary mesh is sold per roll and cuts cleanly with tin snips or bolt cutters. Fix it with cable ties, J-clips or hog rings, or galvanised staples to a timber frame, overlapping joins by one full square and clipping them closed so there is no gap for escapees or predators. Wear gloves when handling cut edges.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What mesh size do I need for an aviary?

13mm suits most aviaries; choose 7mm to exclude mice and the smallest birds, or 13x25mm for rabbits and larger small animals.

Is welded mesh safe for pets?

Yes; galvanised welded mesh is rigid and will not unravel when cut. Smooth any cut ends and fix it securely.

Can I use aviary mesh outdoors?

Yes; galvanising resists rust. For coastal or very wet sites consider extra protection.
