Solid European ash · 28mm

A bright, pale hardwood worktop with clean grain

Genuine solid European ash — kiln-dried, finger-jointed and sanded smooth, with a pale, creamy tone and a clean, straight grain that gives kitchens a bright, modern, Scandi feel. A tough, resilient hardwood, solid all the way through, so it can be sanded and re-oiled rather than replaced. A lighter, more contemporary alternative to oak for worktops, breakfast bars and islands.

Choose your finish

Sanded or oiled?

Both are the same solid ash — the difference is who applies the finish. Select your choice in the options above.

Care made simple

Solid ash is easy to live with — a little oil keeps it protected and beautiful.

1Before fitting

Oil every face and edge — 2–3 coats, with extra on the end grain. Never fit a bare worktop.

2First few months

Add a top-up coat after about 3 months. Wipe spills promptly and use boards and trivets.

3Every year

One maintenance coat a year, or whenever water stops beading. Sand out marks and re-oil any time.

Our 28mm solid ash worktop is a bright, pale real hardwood with a clean, straight grain — a lighter, more contemporary alternative to oak. Made from full-length solid staves of kiln-dried ash, finger-jointed and edge-glued, not laminate or veneer, so it can be sanded and re-oiled for years. Supplied in lengths from 1m to 4m and widths up to 950mm, sanded ready to oil or pre-oiled, with cut-to-size on request and free mainland UK delivery. Price includes VAT.

Why choose a solid ash worktop?

Ash is a tough, resilient hardwood traditionally used where strength matters — and its pale, creamy tone and straight grain give kitchens a bright, modern, Scandi feel. A genuine solid ash worktop is real wood throughout, so it can be sanded and re-oiled rather than replaced. It works beautifully as a kitchen worktop, breakfast bar, kitchen island top, or in a utility room.

Full-stave solid ash construction

Made from kiln-dried ash machined into solid staves, finger-jointed and edge-glued for stability, then sanded to a smooth 150-grit finish ready for oiling. Natural variation in colour and grain is part of the authentic appeal of real ash and is not a fault.

Sanded or oiled finish

Choose sanded (bare, ready to oil) or oiled (pre-treated). Ash takes oil well, so you can keep it pale with a clear finish or warm it up as you prefer. Seal every face and edge before use with 2–3 coats of a food-safe hardwax worktop oil.

Sizes, widths and breakfast bars

Available in 1m, 2m, 3m and 4m lengths, in 620mm standard worktop depth plus 950mm kitchen-island width, at a 28mm thickness that sits neatly onto standard base units. For a warmer, more golden timber see our solid oak worktop.

Cut to size

Need a specific length, sink or hob cut-out, or an L-shaped run? Use the cut-to-size tool on this page, or message us with your sizes for a quote. Ash cuts cleanly on site with a fine-tooth blade.

Delivery

Free delivery to mainland UK, typically 3–5 working days. Worktops are long and heavy, so please ensure clear access for offloading. Message us for trade or multi-worktop quotes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is ash a good wood for a kitchen worktop?

Yes. Ash is a tough, shock-resistant hardwood (traditionally used for tool handles and sports equipment) with a bright, pale tone. Kept oiled, it makes a durable, food-safe worktop.

What is the difference between ash and oak worktops?

Ash is generally paler and brighter with a straighter, cleaner grain; oak is warmer and more golden with a bolder figure. Both are similarly hard and can be sanded and re-oiled for years.

Can ash worktops be stained darker?

Yes. Ash takes stain and coloured oils very well, so it can be kept pale with a clear oil or darkened to a smoky/grey tone. Always seal every face and edge before use.

Sanded or oiled — which should I choose?

Sanded is supplied bare for you to finish yourself; oiled arrives pre-treated and installs faster. Seal all faces and edges before use either way.

How do I care for an ash worktop?

Wipe spills promptly, use boards and trivets, and re-oil every 6-12 months or when water stops beading. Marks can be sanded out and re-oiled.

Can you cut ash worktops to size?

We don't run a paid cutting service, but message us before ordering with your sizes and we'll advise what's possible.
