Our clear worktop oil is a food-safe hardwax oil that seals, protects and nourishes any solid wood worktop — oak, walnut, iroko, ash or beech. It soaks into the timber rather than sitting on top, so it never peels or flakes, wipes clean in the kitchen, and can be spot-repaired without sanding the whole surface back. One tin does the job whatever wood you have. Price includes VAT.

One worktop oil for every solid wood worktop

You don’t need a different product for each timber. This single clear wood worktop oil is the right finish for a kitchen worktop oil across the whole solid-wood range. The clear formula keeps pale woods like ash and beech bright, while letting oak, walnut and iroko deepen to their natural richer tone. It works just as well as an oak worktop oil as it does on darker hardwoods.

Clear, food-safe hardwax oil

Made from natural oils and waxes, this hardwax oil is food-safe once fully cured, making it ideal for kitchen worktops, breakfast bars and islands where food is prepared. It gives a natural, low-sheen satin finish that shows off the grain rather than a plasticky film, and it’s microporous so the wood can still breathe.

How much worktop oil do you need?

Supplied in a handy 1 litre tin, covering approximately 10–12m² per litre depending on the timber and how it’s applied. With the recommended 2–3 coats (plus an extra coat on the end grain), one litre finishes roughly 3–4 linear metres of worktop — enough for a typical small kitchen run.

How to oil a wood worktop

Make sure the surface is clean, dry and lightly sanded. Apply a thin, even coat with a lint-free cloth or brush, working along the grain, then wipe off any excess. Leave 6–8 hours, lightly abrade, then apply a second coat and allow 12 hours to fully dry. For naturally oily hardwoods such as iroko, thin the first coat slightly (or wipe the surface with white spirit first) so the oil keys and penetrates properly.

Best worktop oil for oak, walnut, iroko, ash and beech

Because it’s a clear, penetrating hardwax oil, this is a strong all-round choice and one of the best worktop oil options for solid timber — simple to apply, easy to maintain, and safe for food-prep surfaces. Pair it with any of our solid oak, walnut, iroko, ash or beech worktops.

Care and re-oiling

Wipe spills promptly and use boards and trivets. Re-oil every 6–12 months, or whenever water stops beading on the surface, to keep the worktop protected. No sanding needed for routine top-ups — just clean, dry and re-coat.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which oil do I need for my worktop?

This one. The same clear hardwax oil suits oak, walnut, iroko, ash and beech worktops, so you only need a single product whatever wood you have.

How many coats do I need?

Apply 2-3 thin coats, with an extra coat on the end grain. Leave 8-12 hours between coats and wipe off any excess as you go.

Is it food safe?

Yes. Once fully cured it is food-safe, so it's suitable for kitchen worktops, breakfast bars and food-prep surfaces.

Will it darken my worktop?

Only slightly. The clear formula keeps pale woods like ash and beech bright, while gently enriching the natural tone of oak, walnut and iroko.

How often should I re-oil?

Every 6-12 months, or whenever water stops beading on the surface. Routine top-ups just need a clean, dry surface and a fresh coat - no sanding.

Anything different for iroko or oily hardwoods?

Wipe the surface with white spirit first to degrease it, then let it flash off before oiling so the finish keys properly.
