Our welded wire mesh is a strong galvanised steel weld mesh supplied in rolls for garden fencing, boundaries, security, animal runs, gabions and general fabrication. Welded at every wire intersection into a rigid grid that holds its shape and will not unravel when cut, it is far easier to work with than woven netting — the mesh stays square, edges stay clean, and it keeps its tension between posts without sagging. Available in 19mm, 25mm and 50mm apertures across 12 to 19 gauge wire and 3ft to 6ft heights, in roll lengths from 5m to 33m, all hot-dip galvanised for long outdoor life. Free UK mainland delivery.
Galvanised Mesh Rolls — Weld Mesh & Wire Mesh Roll Sizes
Every roll is supplied as hot-dip galvanised mesh — a galvanised wire mesh roll that resists rust for years outdoors. As a wire mesh roll it's quicker to install than rigid panels: unroll it along the fence line, cut to length and fix, with no framing to line up. We stock the full range of weld mesh roll and galvanised mesh roll sizes — 19mm, 25mm and 50mm holes in 12 to 19 gauge, including the heavy 12 gauge wire mesh roll favoured for security fencing and gabions. Whether you need a light garden galvanised wire mesh roll or a heavy-duty weld mesh roll, there's a size here for the job.
What Is Welded Wire Mesh?
Welded wire mesh — also called weldmesh or weld mesh — is a rigid steel mesh made by resistance-welding galvanised wires into a square grid, manufactured to BS EN 10223-4. Because every crossing point is welded, the panels stay flat and dimensionally stable under load, cut cleanly with no loose strands, and resist pushing, leaning and animal pressure far better than lighter woven wire. That rigidity makes welded mesh the standard choice for permanent fencing, secure animal runs and gabion cages, where a soft netting would sag or be pushed through.
Mesh Aperture — 19mm, 25mm & 50mm
19mm and 25mm welded mesh is the garden and general-purpose aperture — small enough to contain poultry, protect plants and keep pets in, open enough to stay light and easy to handle. It suits garden borders and boundaries, pet and poultry runs, compost bays, plant and tree protection, screens and guards, render backing and DIY projects. 50mm welded mesh is the heavier fencing and security aperture — stronger, harder-wearing and the right choice for boundary and security fencing, dog runs and kennels, agricultural runs, gabion baskets, balustrade and rail infill, and machine guarding. For the finest 7mm to 13mm mesh for aviaries, rabbits and rodent-proofing, see our aviary mesh.
Wire Gauge Explained — 12G to 19G
The gauge is the wire diameter: the lower the gauge number, the thicker and stronger the wire. Our welded mesh runs from 19G (~1mm, light garden mesh) through 16G (~1.6mm, the general all-rounder) to heavy 12–14G (~2.0–2.5mm) for security fencing and gabions. Choose a lighter gauge for garden and plant work where cost and handling matter, and a heavier gauge where the mesh must resist impact, animal pressure or the outward force of a stone-filled gabion.
Galvanised Finish & Durability
Every roll is hot-dip galvanised, with the zinc coating protecting the mild steel core against rust and weathering for many years of outdoor use — far longer than uncoated bright wire. Cut ends and drilled fixings expose bare steel and should be treated with a zinc-rich paint for the longest service life, particularly in wet or coastal locations.
Choosing Your Mesh
| Aperture / gauge | Best for |
|---|---|
| 19–25mm, 16–19G | Garden borders, pet & poultry runs, plant protection, screens and DIY |
| 50mm, 12–16G | Security & boundary fencing, dog runs, gabions and machine guards |
| Fine 7–13mm | Aviaries, rabbits and rodents — see our aviary mesh |
Typical Uses for Welded Wire Mesh
Welded wire mesh is used for garden and boundary fencing, security and perimeter mesh, dog runs and kennels, poultry and animal enclosures, plant and tree protection, gabion baskets, balustrade and rail infill, machine guards, trailer and stock-pen sides, vermin-proofing and general fabrication. Its rigid welded grid gives a tidy, see-through barrier that holds its shape season after season.
Welded Mesh for Gabion Baskets
The heavier 50mm 12G welded mesh is a popular gabion infill. Lace adjoining panels together with galvanised lacing wire to lock each cage square, then fill with stone — the rigid welded grid keeps the cage flat and prevents bulging under load. For ready-made cages, see our GALFAN gabion baskets.
Specification
| Hole size | Wire gauge | Heights | Roll lengths | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 19 x 19mm | 16G | 3ft | 5m | Galvanised |
| 25 x 25mm | 12–19G | 3ft / 4ft | 15–33m | Galvanised |
| 50 x 50mm | 12–16G | 3ft / 4ft / 6ft | 15–30m | Galvanised |
Cut to Size, Fixing & Quantities
Sold per roll; cut to length with bolt cutters or an angle grinder, leaving no loose strands. Fix with cable ties, hog rings or galvanised staples to timber, and tension the mesh between posts at roughly 2.5–3m centres for a taut, rigid run. Overlap roll ends by one full square and clip them closed for a continuous line. Wear gloves when handling cut edges.
Rolls vs Rigid Panels
Rolls are ideal for running fence lines, wrapping timber frames and building enclosures cut to fit. For flat rigid sheets — security infills, boundary panels and permanent runs where you need a pre-sized panel — see our galvanised welded mesh panels in 12G with 25mm, 50mm and 75x25mm holes. For the finest aviary and rodent mesh, see our aviary mesh.
Delivery
Free UK mainland delivery, typically 2–5 working days. Rolls ship parcelled by courier; bulk rolls ship on a pallet (kerbside). Highlands, islands and offshore postcodes — contact us for a delivery quote before ordering.
