Rackerman open steel flooring — also known as steel grating, metal grating or open mesh flooring — provides a strong, anti-slip walking and working surface for platforms, walkways, mezzanines, stairs and drainage covers. Manufactured from mild steel to BS EN 10025 S275JR with load-bearing bars running the length of each 6m x 1m panel, it is available plain (self-colour) for indoor use or hot-dip galvanised walkway grating for lasting outdoor durability.

The open design lets light, air, water and debris pass straight through, which is why steel grating is the default flooring for industrial access platforms, plant rooms and external walkways. The serrated and plain bar options give reliable grip underfoot, while the deep bearer bars carry substantial loads across the span — making open steel flooring both safer and more economical than solid plate in most access applications.

Galvanised grating is the choice for any external or wash-down area, while plain panels suit dry internal plant and storage decks.

Cut to Size & Structural Note

Standard panels are 6000 x 1000mm and can be cut to suit on site with an abrasive saw; band any cut edges to maintain integrity. Load capacity depends on bearer bar size, span and support conditions — specify the panel to your structural engineer's loading and deflection requirements rather than by eye, particularly for public access or point-loaded platforms.
