Collection: Mild Steel Sheets

Mild steel sheets in S275 grade — 2000×1000mm, 2500×1250mm (8×4ft) and 3000×1500mm sizes, 0.8mm to 10mm thickness, mill finish, UK delivery

Our mild steel sheets are supplied in S275 grade across three sheet sizes — 2000×1000mm, 2500×1250mm (8×4ft) and 3000×1500mm — with thicknesses from 0.8mm to 10mm. Mill finish, suitable for fabrication, construction and general engineering use, with a 3–5 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses.

Mild Steel Sheets in S275 — UK Stock, Fast Delivery

Our mild steel sheet collection covers three standard sheet sizes in S275 structural grade steel, supplied in mill finish across a wide thickness range from 0.8mm to 10mm. Whether you need a standard 8×4ft sheet for general fabrication or a large 3000×1500mm panel for cladding and structural work, all sheets are available for delivery to mainland UK addresses within 3–5 working days.

Available Sheet Sizes

2500×1250mm (8×4ft) — thicknesses 0.8mm to 10mm (12 options). The most widely used sheet size in UK fabrication and construction. From £59.99 per sheet.

2000×1000mm — thicknesses 0.8mm to 10mm (12 options). Suitable for general workshop and fabrication use where a metre-wide sheet is convenient to handle and cut. From £49.99 per sheet.

3000×1500mm — available in 1.5mm and 3mm. Large-format sheet for panel and cladding work where minimising joints across a span is important. From £149.99 per sheet.

Technical Specification

Material grade: S275 mild steel — minimum yield strength 275 N/mm²

Density: 7,850 kg/m³

Finish: mill finish (untreated)

Weldability: good — suitable for MIG/MAG, MMA and TIG welding

Machinability: good — drills, cuts and laser/plasma cuts cleanly

Formability: good cold-forming in thinner gauges; thicker plate suits hot forming

Corrosion resistance: low untreated — paint, prime or galvanise for outdoor use

Common Uses

S275 mild steel sheet is used across fabrication, construction and general engineering for base plates, gusset plates, brackets, machine guards, fabrication blanks, repair plates, infill panels, gate and railing work, vehicle and trailer repairs, cladding panels and general metalwork. The 8×4ft size is the standard go-to for UK workshop and trade use, while the 3000×1500mm sheet suits larger panel and structural applications.

Workability

S275 mild steel sheet can be cut, drilled, bent, welded and fabricated using standard steelwork methods. It is suitable for painting, priming or galvanising after fabrication where corrosion protection is required. Thicker plates of 6mm and above require heavier-duty cutting and handling equipment.

Mild Steel Sheet vs Other Materials

S275 mild steel offers high strength and good weldability at low cost, making it the standard choice for structural and fabrication work. Where corrosion resistance is the priority, galvanised steel sheet or stainless steel may be more suitable. Aluminium is lighter but weaker and is not a like-for-like substitute in structural applications. For anti-slip flooring applications, see our mild steel durbar checker plate.

FAQ

What sizes of mild steel sheet do you stock?

We stock mild steel sheets in three standard sizes — 2500×1250mm (8×4ft), 2000×1000mm and 3000×1500mm. The 8×4ft sheet is available in 12 thicknesses from 0.8mm to 10mm. The 2000×1000mm sheet is also available in 12 thicknesses from 0.8mm to 10mm. The 3000×1500mm large-format sheet is available in 1.5mm and 3mm.

What grade is your mild steel sheet?

All our mild steel sheets are supplied in S275 grade — minimum yield strength 275 N/mm². S275 is one of the most widely used structural steel grades in the UK, offering good weldability, machinability and formability across the full thickness range.

Can mild steel sheet be welded and cut?

Yes — S275 mild steel sheet can be cut, drilled, bent, welded and fabricated using standard steelwork methods. It is suitable for MIG/MAG, MMA and TIG welding. Thinner sheets cut cleanly with laser, plasma or guillotine. Thicker plates of 6mm and above require heavier-duty cutting equipment. It is suitable for painting, priming or galvanising after fabrication where corrosion protection is required.

What is the difference between mild steel sheet and galvanised sheet?

Mild steel sheet is supplied in mill finish — untreated steel with no corrosion protection. It is the standard choice for indoor fabrication, structural work and applications where the steel will be painted or enclosed. Galvanised steel sheet has a zinc coating applied, providing corrosion resistance for outdoor or exposed applications without additional painting. For outdoor use where rust resistance is important, galvanised sheet is the more appropriate choice.

What are the delivery lead times for mild steel sheets?

Mild steel sheets are currently available on a 3–5 working day lead time to mainland UK addresses, with a maximum of 10 working days to remote areas. Sheets are heavy items — please ensure suitable access is available for delivery at your site. Contact us for a custom quote on larger orders or multiple sheet requirements.
