Why Use a Palisade Calculator?
Palisade fencing isn't sold by the metre - it's sold as 2.75m run kits plus separate components. Each component has its own count rule, and the post-counting is what catches most buyers out. Each run needs 3 posts (one at each end, one in the middle), each kit includes only 1 post, and posts are shared between adjoining runs - so working out how many posts you actually need to buy requires the formula: extra posts = number of runs + 1. Do it by hand and you'll either over-order (wasted money on extra posts you don't need) or under-order (the most common mistake - missing 1-3 posts when the delivery arrives). The calculator does it correctly every time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does this 2.0m palisade calculator do?
This tool works out exactly how much 2.0m galvanised palisade fencing you need for your run. Enter your total fence length in metres (or number of 2.75m sets), pick your fixing method (bolt-down or concrete-in) and pale profile (D triple-point 3mm or W notched 2mm), and the calculator tells you the exact components - runs, posts, fish plates, bolts. Hit Calculate and the items are added to your Shopify basket at the live prices, ready to check out.
How accurate is the calculator?
Very. The calculator uses the same component prices as our live product pages - what it quotes is what you pay at checkout. The post-counting formula is the verified Brundle palisade post-sharing rule (total posts = number of runs x 2 + 1, with the kit including 1 post, so extra posts to buy = runs + 1). Many DIY buyers get this wrong by hand because posts are shared between adjoining runs.
Why do I need a calculator for palisade?
Palisade isn't a fence you can buy by the metre. It's sold as 2.75m run kits, plus separate posts, plus separate fish plates for joins, plus separate bolts. Each component has a different count rule. Working it out by hand is error-prone, and the most common mistake is ordering one too few posts (because each kit includes 1 post but every run needs 3 posts to stand, and they're shared between adjoining runs). The calculator handles all of this.
What's the difference between D and W profile pales on the 2.0m calculator?
D profile is 3mm thick mild steel with a triple-pointed top - heavier duty, more secure, harder to climb. W profile is 2mm thick with a notched W-shaped top - lighter and cheaper. On the 2.0m fence, D pale = £15.30 each, W pale = £15.30 each. Use the toggle on the calculator to switch between them and see the price difference instantly.
What's the difference between bolt-down and concrete-in on the 2.0m calculator?
Bolt-down posts (with a baseplate, £99 each for 2.0m fence) bolt to an existing concrete slab using anchor bolts. Concrete-in posts (£72 each, no baseplate) are dug into the ground and set in fresh concrete. Bolt-down is faster on existing hardstanding; concrete-in is more secure and standard for new installations. The calculator switches the post price automatically when you change fixing method.
Does this work for any fence length?
Yes - enter any length in metres and the calculator rounds up to the nearest 2.75m run. So a 5m fence needs 2 runs (5.5m total), a 10m fence needs 4 runs (11m total), and so on. For very large jobs (50m+ runs, multiple heights or complex layouts with many corners) we'll quote separately - 2.0m for council depot, light commercial and domestic security - contact us with the total length, corners and access details.
Can I order without using the calculator?
Yes - the calculator is a convenience, not a requirement. If you'd rather buy individual components or the full kit manually, go to our 2.0m Galvanised Palisade Fencing product page where you can pick any variant directly: 2.75m run kits, individual pales, posts, rails, fish plates and bolt packs.
How many posts do I need?
Each 2.75m run needs 3 posts to stand (one at each end and one in the middle). Posts are shared between adjoining runs, so the formula is: total posts = (number of runs x 2) + 1. Each run kit includes 1 post, so extra posts to buy = number of runs + 1. Example: a 3-run fence (8.25m) needs 7 posts total - the 3 kits cover 3 posts, so you buy 4 extra. The calculator does this automatically based on your input.
Do I need corner or end fish plates?
Tick the optional add-on if your fence has corners (the rail turns 90 degrees) or ends (the rail terminates against a post or wall). Standard fish plates join two rails in a straight run. Corner fish plates turn the rail at a 90-degree corner post. End fish plates cleanly terminate a rail. Most simple straight-run fences only need the standard fish plates included in the kit. Complex layouts with multiple corners or terminations need corner/end fish plates added separately.
What's included in a 2.0m 2.75m run kit?
Each 2.0m 2.75m run kit contains 17 galvanised pales (D or W profile, depending on the variant you select), 2 horizontal rails (40x40x6mm steel angle), 2 fish plates, 1 post (2525mm long, either bolt-down with baseplate or concrete-in, depending on the variant), and 1 pack of bolts (4 rail bolts plus 34 pale bolts). 2.75m run kit prices: Bolt-Down D £260, Bolt-Down W £241, Concrete-In D £229, Concrete-In W £211.
Are the prices on the calculator the same as on the product page?
Yes - the calculator pulls its prices live from the matching component product page (2.0m Galvanised Palisade Fencing). What you see on the calculator is what you pay at checkout. All prices include VAT.
