Rackerman is a UK steel supplier: buy mild steel flat bar — also known as flat steel bar, flat metal bar, hot rolled flat bar, engineering flat bar or steel strip — online with fast mainland UK delivery and cut-to-size service, a convenient alternative to a local steel flat bar supplier near you. Offcuts are included free with every cut.

Common Uses

Mild steel flat bar is used for brackets, straps, cleats and packers, frame reinforcement and bracing, gate and railing components, lintel and shelf supports, machine bases, fixing plates, fencing, banding and general fabrication. The solid flat profile lends itself to bolted and welded connections and is easy to drill, cut and shape.

Cutting, Bending & Fabrication

S275 flat bar cuts, drills and welds readily with standard metalworking tools. Thinner bar bends in a vice or bending jig; thicker sections need a press brake or heat. We can also supply this flat bar cut to size on request — leave your cutting list at checkout and all offcuts are included free.

Finish and Protection

Supplied in standard mill finish, which may show light mill scale, handling marks or surface oxidation — normal for untreated steel. For outdoor, fencing or exposed work, clean, prime and paint the bar, or choose our galvanised steel flat bar, the same solid flat section with a hot-dip zinc coating for corrosion resistance.

Compare Our Flat Bar Range

Choose the right flat bar for the job: mild steel flat bar for general fabrication, galvanised flat bar for outdoor and corrosion resistance, and lightweight 6063 aluminium flat bar for trims, edging and marine work.

Related Mild Steel Sections

Part of our full mild steel range: angle iron, square bar, round bar, box section (SHS), rectangular hollow section (RHS) and steel channel. Work out weights with our metal weight calculator.
